Uathesis

Uathesis is a compressed bundle of files which creates a contributed class file (.sty file extension) for use with the L TEX typesetting language. It creates the official Masters and PhD thesis format style for Auckland University by defining the style and page geometry required as in the university regulations .

Usage
Using a typesetting language like L TEX as opposed to a word processor provides a framework for high quality presentation of output. L TEX automates the page numbering, cross referencing, list of tables, list of figures, and bibliography referencing using BibTEX. The source code for the document is a text file (usually .tex extension), which can link to other text files and graphics files for embedding pictures and diagrams. The commands 'latex', and 'pdflatex' compile either a PostScript file (from a dvi file using dvips), or a pdf file respectively. If the 'latex' command is used all embedded pictures and diagrams must be PostScript images, if the 'pdflatex' command is used the same images must be in PNG, or JPEG format.

History
It was originally written by Lee Middleton for use within the electrical engineering department. It is now maintained by Sylvia Wong. Small modifications may be necessary to the class file so that the title page is correctly presented for other Auckland University faculties.

Known bugs
On the title page, the specified department or faculty starts with Department of (e.g. Electrical & Electronic Engineering). Currently there is no switch to specify this text as School of (e.g. Biological Sciences). A quick workaround is to alter line 314 in the uathesis.cls file;

{\it Department of \@department \\[-4\p@]
to
{\it School of \@department \\[-4\p@]
