True Americans is a drinking game popularized by the TV show New Girl on FOX.
== True Americans 50%drinking game, 50% life sized candy land ==
In the 20th episode of New Girl on FOX, the four roommates and Jess' new boyfriend play the game for the first time in the series. The rules were fleshed out by users on Tumblr from what was demonstrated in the episode and have been altered for clarity.

The Game
Game Setup
1. Arrange the cans of beer around a bottle of your favourite shot (i.e. sambuca/tequila etc.). The cans are Pawns of the Secret Order, the alcohol of your choice is the King. The arrangement is called the Castle.
2. Decide on 4 zones and arrange platforms in patterns through them. Inventive and novel modes of transport are encouraged. Each zone must have the same number of platforms. The 5th zone is the zone with the Castle. For ease of play, it is convenient to put the Castle in the center of the other 4 zones. You must follow the path of platforms through the zones. You must travel through all 4 zones before reaching going to zone 5. Players beginning in zones 4 and 5 move to zone 1, and play continues in zone order.
3. There are 2 modes of play: Team Play or Free-For-All. Teams in Team Play are decided at random by placing the number of the zone in which a player wishes to begin upon their head using their fingers after a countdown. This is to avoid collusion and promote team-bonding.
4. To start, a random player shotguns a beer - decided at any player's discretion and then begins by chanting (see below). Play begins from that player's zone and continues in zone order.
Types of chanting: The player may choose to do any of the following chants:
1. Repeat the opening chant chanted by the shotgunner. Players must respond likewise. This chant must be agreed upon before play begins.
2. Shout out 2 things relating to the theme of the game. Players must shout back an answer which links them. If playing with American Presidents for example, a player may shout out "George Washington, Abe Lincoln", to which players may respond "Cherry tree" etc. Responses are accepted or disallowed at the chanter's discretion.
3. Role-Call. The Chanter counts down from 3 and each player places a random number of fingers on their head in the same way teams are chosen. In small groups, players who manage to choose a unique number are required to drink. In games with lots of players or in teams, the players who hold up the least common number are required to drink. Team players who do not put up the same number of fingers are also required to drink.
Gameplay
1. The shotgunner shouts “1, 2, 3, 4 JFK” (or a name/object relevant to the chosen theme). The other players then shout "FDR" (or other name/object relevant to the chosen theme chosen in advance) and then drink. The floor is now lava and players must take their spaces at the first space in their zone. Stepping onto the lava results in automatic disqualification. You may start at the beginning of the zone you are in, or choose to sit out. If you choose to sit out, you start over from Zone 1 if you decide to rejoin.
2. At any point on a player's turn they may choose to chant, which must be repeated with equal vigour by fellow players. Failure to do so requires a player to take a drink and move back to the beginning of the zone they are in. A player may only chant on their turn, but it is at their discretion whether or not to do so. If a player refuses to or forgets to chant on their turn after their 3rd turn, they must return to the beginning of the zone in which they started.
3. A player moves forward whenever they finish their drink or answer a question correctly.
4. Empty cans/cups must be tossed to the Done-Zone. The Done-Zone may be located in any part of the playing field, but must be marked clearly to avoid confusion. This is to keep the playing area somewhat clean. If a player throws a can and it does not land in the Done-Zone, the player must go back to the beginning of the Zone they are in.
5. In order to win, a player must reach the king and take a shot from it. If a player reaches zone 5 and fails to answer their question correctly or cannot take a shot because beer still remains, play continues as normal until somebody can.
6. The point of True Americans is to play using the theme of American Presidents. Parties who aren't familiar with American Presidents must choose a theme before gameplay begins. Chants/Countdowns/Questions etc. must all be relevant to the theme.
7. If you move or drink when you’re not supposed to, you go back to the beginning of the zone in which you are standing.
8. Players may occupy the same space in the same zone, but must not make the space bigger or smaller to accommodate each other.
