Travis Clark

Travis Clark is the lead singer and guitarist for the indie / powerpop band We the Kings, which also includes Danny Duncan, Drew Thomsen, and Hunter Thomsen. He is from Bradenton, Florida.

Early Life and Forming the Band

Growing up, Travis went to Martha B. King Middle School, where he met future We the Kings members Hunter Thomsen, Drew Thomsen, and Danny Duncan, and where the band took its name. He later moved on to Manatee High School, and around this time he realized that music was something he “wanted to take seriously”. Hunter, Danny, and Drew were playing in other bands at this time, and according to Travis, he “cherry-picked them” from their bands to form Broken Image in his sophomore year, and they later changed their name to De Soto. Facing a lawsuit for their new name, they changed it one final time to We the Kings. When it came time to begin touring, Travis, Hunter, and Danny dropped out of college after a semester or two to travel full-time, and Drew graduated early from high school. They completed a couple of tours with bands Boys Like Girls and Self Against City before signing to S Curve Records. Since then, they have been on the rise with the completion of multiple tours (some of them headlining), their single Check Yes Juliet being featured on iTunes, performing all dates on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, being featured on the cover of Substream Music Press magazine, and closing the Tampa Bay Rays Summer Concert Series, among other accomplishments.

Personality

According to the band, Travis is very kind and “will do anything for his fans”. He has been known to perform acoustic sessions after shows (sometimes privately for fans who may have missed a show, once even in a bathroom), leave video messages, and talk to fans on the phone. He is also very outgoing, and has done covers of Soulja Boy's song Crank Dat and Wyclef Jean's song Dolla Bill during some shows. Travis has made it very well-known that he would like to meet every fan, and that they are very important to him; in his own words, “I'd like to meet the people that feel like they'll never be met.” In addition, he has “mad respect” for musicians, enjoys South Park and celebrity drama magazines, and has a dog named Elvis Scissorhands.
