Tom Beets was born in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, in 1983. At an early age he started to play the recorder enthusiastically. He completed his recorder studies at the Lemmensinstitute in Leuven (B) with Bart Spanhove and Bart Coen and has spent a year studying at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya (Sp) with Pedro Memelsdorff and Jean-Pierre Canihac. Apart from the usual baroque repertoire his interest/focus lies on music history and medieval music performance. Concerts and competitions, both solo and in various ensembles, have led him to every part of Europe. Tom is a member of various Dutch and international ensembles. Since 2007 he has travelled around the world with the Flanders Recorder Quartet, playing in the world’s most prestigious concert halls. Tom is a recorder teacher in Flanders and is doing research for the University of Leuven. Apart from that he writes articles about the recorder for and it chief editor of the Dutch recorder magazine. In his sparse free time Tom plays the viol and dances Lindy Hop.
