Tobias Schlingensiepen is a Topeka, Kansas pastor and police chaplain. He was the Democratic candidate for the United States House of Representatives in Kansas's 2nd congressional district in 2012. Political career Schlingensiepen's involvement in the political process began when state funding cuts threatened to shut down the Kansas Neurological Institute in 2010. Schlingensiepen organized a bipartisan coalition to convince lawmakers to keep the Institute open. In March 2015, Schlingensiepen was elected treasurer of the Kansas Democratic Party. 2012 U.S. House campaign Schlingensiepen won the 2nd District primary election on August 7, 2012, and then received the endorsement of his Democratic rival, Bob Eye. Together, Eye and Schlingensiepen received 75% of the primary vote. Schlingensiepen faced incumbent and Republican nominee Lynn Jenkins and Libertarian nominee Dennis Hawver in the general election. Lynn Jenkins won re-election. Personal life Schlingensiepen and his wife, Abigail, have eight children.<ref name="votesmart"/>
