To Be Hated is a 4 piece punk rock band that was formed in 2006 in West Ft. Lauderdale Florida. As a part of the South Florida punk rock scene, they frequently play gigs at many bars and clubs in the South Florida area. Drawing from integral punk rock influences such as the Clash, Ramones, Black Flag, and Bad Brains, To Be Hated has a musical style that is very reminiscent of 1980s punk rock.
History
To Be Hated was formed in late 2006 in West Ft, Lauderdale Florida by Christian "Citizen Chris" Martinez, Jose "Sour Jose" Ramos, Levi Sutton, and Jon "Johnny Lovely" Pflug. Due to his career in politics, Citizen Chris left the band and was replaced by long time friend Tom "Tommy Cheese Stix" Brown. To Be Hated consists of members from other South Florida punk rock bands such as Mr. Abstracto and the Sour Grapes, The Skadillacs, and the Grunts. Their current line up includes Sour Jose (guitar,) Levi (guitar,) Tommy Cheese Stix (drums,) and Johnny Lovely (bass, vocals.)
Albums
To Be Hated has released two albums thus far and is supposedly working on a third, due out later this year. Their record label is South Florida DIY label Sour Grape Records. The first album, Dance of Doom was released in 2006 on Sour Grape Records and originally contained 10 songs and Citizen Chris on drums. Dance of Doom was rerecorded and rereleased in 2007 containing 9 songs and featured Tommy Cheese Stix on drums. The one song that was cut off Dance of Doom was changed and added to Bootcamp For Whores. To Be Hated's second release, Bootcamp For Whores was released in 2007 on Sour Grape Records, and contained 10 tracks all composed by the band's current line up.
Shows
To Be Hated has played with other punk rock acts such as Agent Orange, Total Chaos, the Independents, the Basicks, Marky Ramone, the Vibrators, Laramie Dean, the Boils, Complete Control, the Crumbs, Five Across the Eyes, and OPS. Playing an average of 30+ shows per year, To Be Hated has played many places in South Florida including Churchill's Pub, Tobacco Road, Club M, and Brogues.
