To Be A Nepalese

To Be A Nepalese is a book by C. K. Lal about issues pertaining to multifarious and multifocal topics concerning Nepali identity, citizenship, and nationalism, categorically summed up in analysis and synthesis upon what the author calls Nepalipan. It was published in 2012 by Martin Chautari, Kathmandu. The book was originally conceived as a thinking paper for Martin Chautari in 2011 in Nepali language as Nepali Hunalai. The book makes interesting discussion on Nepali identity, chiefly relevant due to post-monarchical Nepal, where traditional notion of Nepali identity is breaking down and a supposedly new and more equitable dynamics is unfolding. More than 20 leading thinkers, including politicians, commented upon the various facets of the book, also published in the original Nepali volume. The book "maps out the complexities, vulnerabilities, and inadequacies of the traditional concept of being a Nepali."
