Titanic: The Legend Lives On

Titanic: The Legend Lives On is the second half of a four hour documentary special produced by A&E Television Networks in 1994. While the first part, "Death of a Dream" focused on the construction and initial collision of Titanic, this second part concentrated on the ship's sinking, its immediate aftermath, and discovery in 1985 by Dr. Robert Ballard.

David McCallum narrated the story, with personal accounts from then-living survivors and voice actors reading noted documents by survivors and the media. Critics were impressed by certain camera tricks used throughout the program. For instance, a static image of the ship slowly panned across the screen, overlaid atop videotaped footage of an ocean view, simulating footage of the ship sailing in real time.

A&E originally aired the special in 1994, to critical reviews. It aired in a two-hour timeslot immediately following Titanic: Death of a Dream. A&E Home Video originally sold the entire documentary in a 4-tape VHS set, but is now available from History Channel Home Video on a single DVD, "Titanic: The Complete Story."
