Timothy McAllister

Timothy McAllister is an American concert saxophonist and pedagogue. He studied at the University of Michigan with Donald Sinta. He is the current professor of saxophone at Arizona State University. Dr. McAllister also taught at the Crane School of Music from 1997 to 2006 and The University of Arizona from 2006 to 2008. McAllister specializes on the alto and soprano saxophones and has premiered over 100 new works. He is soprano chair of the PRISM saxophone quartet, which performs and commissions new works for saxophone quartet.
In 2009, McAllister played the prominent alto saxophone solo in the world premiere of City Noir by John Adams as part of the inaugural concert of Gustavo Dudamel's tenure as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall . The concert was broadcast live in Europe and subsequently on Great Performances on PBS, and was later released by Deutsche Grammophon on DVD, and later on digital download on their DG Concerts label. He continued performing the piece with the orchestra during their US tour in May 2010.
