Timeline of Jacques-Yves Cousteau

*June 11, 1910, Jacques Cousteau was born.
**He began a company at the age of 16 in which he produced many films.
*In 1930, he joined the French navy because he loved water and wanted to travel to see the world
**however in 1935 he had a serious car crash leaving him partially paralyzed and unable to user his arms.
**Jacques Cousteau recovered after eight months of therapy and was again able to use his arms.
*In 1936, Jacques Cousteau shot his first underwater film.
*Jacques Cousteau,In 1943, made a great tribute to the underwater exploration, Jacques Cousteau, working with Emile Gagnon they developed SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus)
* In 1950, Cousteau acquired the Calypso, a former minesweeper, and she became an oceanographic vessel dedicated to exploring the ocean for scientific purposes.
**She served Cousteau for 46 years, but sadly she was in a boating accident in Singapore Harbor early in 1996.
*in 1950 Cousteau went to the Red Sea to study Coral Reefs.
*in 1953, Cousteau turned to filming and exploring the oceans.
*in 1956, He and received an Academy Award for published his first book, the Silent World.
**He also created underwater, 35mm still camera.
*In the 1960s Cousteau created a T.V. series entitled "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau".
**he had 36 episodes in this series,that were filmed between 1968 and 1976. Through T.V., Cousteau had taken his fans around the world.
*Cousteau, in his T.V. series, studied:
#Sperm Whales off Portugal’s Azore Islands.
#The great Blue Hole of Belize, and figured out the mysteries of sleeping sharks off the Yucatan coast of Mexico.
#He journeyed to the enchanting Antarctic.
*Jacques Cousteau continued his explorations in 1979.He launched a series of extensive expeditions to the world’s great river systems. By then, he had created a society entitled "The Cousteau Society".
