Thurtene Honorary

The Thurtene Honorary, founded in 1904 as an all-male secret society at Washington University in St. Louis is in charge of coordinating and running the Thurtene Carnival, which is the oldest and largest student-run carnival in the United States. In 1935 the honorary found its purpose when they were asked to rescue the student-run circus from the senior honorary Pralma, and have continued to plan, resource, and execute every April the Thurtene Carnival on the Washington University campus.
<In 1991 the Honorary became co-ed, as it exists today. ref>1</ref> The Honorary selects 13 new members each year through an application and interview process. All new members in the Thurtene Honorary are in their Junior year of study.
The Thurtene Carnival is held every Spring in April. The two-day community event brings together both the Washington University in St. Louis and the St. Louis communities.
