Thottichiamman

Thottichiamman or otherwise known as jakkamma or veera jakka devi is popular deity in the sourthern part of india. It is believed that the great siddhars like bhogar and pulipani worshipped this godesses as their family deity.She is know for her sharp intellectual force. The important aspect of this goddesses is that she is the direct manifestation of shiva himself without shakthi unlike other godesses who are the direct embodiment of the adhi shakthi.
It is also believed that Bhogar taught pulipani about the art of worshipping thottichiaman and pulipani continued the worship along with the worship of murugan temple in palani. In tamlnadu we have many temples for thottichiamman and one suh shrine is found in the pulipani ashram at the foot of palani hills.
Another important temple of this thottichiamman can be seen in a place called ottapidaram in the thoothukudi district of tamilnadu. She is seen on the fort ruled by the warrior veera pandya kattabomman and she was popularly worshipped as veera jakkadevi. Her origin is from bellari district of Andhra and she was carried by the king family who migrated to tamilnadu on later days.
