Thomas Jackson Charlton (October 5, 1805 - September 22, 1835) was a 19th-century American physician. He distinguished himself in the cholera epidemic of 1834. Life and career Charlton was the son of Thomas Charlton, twice mayor of Savannah, Georgia, and Emily Walter. He was the older brother of Georgia senator Robert M. Charlton. In 1830, he married Sarah Margaret Waters, with whom he had three children: Emily, Thomas Jackson Charlton Jr. and Sarah Ellen. Four years later, he became noted for his involvement in fighting the cholera pandemic of 1834. Death Charlton died on Sepember 22, 1835, aged 29. He had contracted yellow fever. He preceded his father in death by two months. |
