The Wolf Hunter

The Wolf Hunter is a fictional character from a series of films by the same name, as well as several other films released by the Ohio horror film company, Independent B Movie. Portrayed by Matt Hoffman, the Wolf Hunter's quest is to hunt werewolves in Southern Ohio.

FILMS

The character of the Wolf Hunter was created by Independent B Movie president Matt Brassfield for his film, Werewolf of Ohio 2. This films marks both the introduction of the character and the character's death at the hands of the Wolfman. Originally, the Wolf Hunter was designed as a supporting character for the Werewolf of Ohio franchise only. However, after considerable response from fans, Brassfield and Hoffman decided to give the Wolf Hunter his own franchise with Hoffman making his directorial debut. All subsequent appearances of the Wolf Hunter, including the story of Amber's death are presumed to take place before Werewolf of Ohio 2.

The first Wolf Hunter film was released on DVD in 2002 by Independent B Movie. Shooting for Wolf Hunter 2 was completed in 2007, and the film is set to be released on DVD in fall of 2008 by Independent B Movie. The Wolf Hunter character and his film appearances have gained a cult following in the low-budget horror film community. There are at least two homage films planned. The first is called "Wolvesbane" from Fiendish Films in New Jersey. The second is a parody film by another Ohio director, Max Ervin, and is tenetively titled Pig Hunter. Hoffman himself was also parodied in Matt Brassfield's 2006 film Cocktober Blood.

The next Wolf Hunter film will be Wolf Hunter Zero, directed by Matt Hoffman. This film will explore the origins of the Wolf Hunter.

CHARACTER

The Wolf Hunter is easily identified by the dark sunglasses and fingerless black gloves that he wears in all of his films appearances. He is both mysterious and familiar, a typical vigilante character. The driving force of the Wolf Hunter is his quest to defeat the werewolves of Southern Ohio. This motive is strengthened by a blood feud with the werewolf Malice after the death of Amber in the first Wolf Hunter film. The Wolf Hunter's main weapons are guns, which are often depicted as cross over his chest in promotional material for the films. He has also used a shot gun and butterfly knives as weaponry.

The Wolf Hunter is a lone figure, but not the only one of his kind. In Wolf Hunter 2, it is revealed that there is a world-wide guild of werewolf hunters including Ash, Duke, Heaven, and Rose all of whom are minor or supporting characters in the Wolf Hunter franchise.
