The Veloes

The Veloes are a seven-peice English indie rock and pop band formed in East Sussex in 2005. The original band consisted of singer, pianist, and acoustic guiatrist Jonny Fitzpatrick, guitarist Tom Booth, and bassist Mat Fuller.
About
Since their first performance in 2005, The Veloes' line up has centered around Fitzpatrick, Booth and Fuller. In 2006 the trio were joined by drummer Robert Moth to record their first EP named 'The Pigeon EP'. In 2007, guitarist Henry Bird also joined to work on writing and recording their debut, self-titled album. In 2009, percussionist and bassist Harrison Bamford joined the band, along with guitarist Laurent Judson.
Name change
The Veloes' original name was 'The Gunpowder Plot', named after the famous attempted attack on the Houses of Parliament in London, England. After keeping the name for some three years, the band decided on a name change. After much debate, the band agreed on 'The Veloes', citing the French word for bicycle, 'Velo'.
Influences
The Veloes' have been influenced and inspired by various bands including The Kinks, Modest Mouse and The Beatles. The band typically cover songs from various artists at some of their gigs, however, this was more frequent in their earlier days. Songs covered include 'Float On' by Modest Mouse and 'Johnny B. Goode' by Chuck Berry.
