It is also called Saat Rasta (Road) because originally 7 roads intersected at the circle. However, presently there are 8 roads intersecting at Jacob Circle.
Concept
The Saat Rasta Project is a proposed Public Space Project along the Bapurao Jagtap Road, connecting Jacob Circle to the Mahalaxmi Railway Station.
2 underpasses are proposed towards Jacob Circle (saat rasta) to alleviate traffic coming from Dr. E Moses Road. The normally congested Bapurao Jagtap Road becomes a pedestrian-only space. Thus, the current 8 rasta would become 7 rasta again.
Impact
If the project becomes a reality, it will create a 1.7 Acres public space. It will decongest the traffic coming from Dr. E Moses Road and allow for smoother traffic flow.
The proposal estimates that the path would benefit more than 500,000 passengers during rush hour that travel to and from Mahalaxmi station daily.
It will also connect the proposed Jacob Circle Monorail station to the Mahalaxmi Railway Station.
