The Movie Guys

The Movie Guys is an entertainment and comedy brand from Los Angeles, California. It started with a website in 2009 founded by Paul Preston featuring movie reviews and articles and soon expanded to comedy videos, podcasts, live shows and event hosting. From 2017 to the present, The Movie Guys have produced two podcasts: The TMG Interview, featuring Preston one-on-one with filmmakers and The Ford Fiesta, in which Preston and Adam Witt breakdown every Harrison Ford movie, in order.
History
Paul had been involved in various plays and the entertainment industry and wrote his personal thoughts and reviews for new movies that he shared with his friends until his wife Karen Volpe encouraged him to put all his content in one place, so he started TheMovieGuys.net in 2009.
Soon after, the site also became home to over a hundred movie preview videos, offering up looks at new movies with clips and late night monologue-type jokes. Appearing in these were Preston, Volpe and their comedian friends Adam Witt, Steven Lewis, Bart Kias, David Beach, Justin Bowler and more with special guests.
In 2011 & 2012, The Movie Guys created a stage version of their content (The Movie Guys LIVE!), presenting the jokes and clips along with fleshed-out comedy sketches. The show ran at I.O. West Hollywood and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater with the most shows taking place at The Second City Hollywood.
In 2013, The Movie Guys pared their core team down to Preston, Volpe, Witt and Kias for a 200+ episode run of a podcast called The Movie Showcast. This 90-minute show featured jokes and sketches about new releases with an interview segment that involved guests who were either in the films, comedians or friends of the show. In that run, guests included Ike Barinholtz, Doug Jones, Ian Gomez, Jamie Kennedy, Joel Murray, Marcus Nispel, Melissa Villaseñor, Mick Foley, Rhett Reese, Ross Marquand, Ted Raimi and many more.
In 2016, The Movie Guys did a live show on WRFA-LP 107.9 FM in upstate New York, bringing local filmmakers to interview.
Preston and Sean Blodgett hosted and produced a podcast in 2019 called Countdown to Nine, a monthly show that looked at each Star Wars movie in the franchise, leading to Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. The show featured comedy, plot recaps and special guests from the films and fellow Star Wars podcasters and bloggers. Mid 2019 also found The Movie Guys competing on Movie Trivia Schmoedown.
