The Mighty Lumberhorn

The Mighty Lumberhorn was a hillbilly bluegrass band that performs in and around Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The band's most unusual characteristic was its home-made bass, dubbed the Lumberhorn, thus giving the band its name. Made of plywood and having two piano strings, it wasn't very well suited for playing with other instruments or amplifying, and it was then burned at a bluegrass festival. It was replaced by another plywood bass, but of better quality, and more easily amplified. It is still called the "Lumberhorn." Though they did cover some well known, and some lesser known songs, The Mighty Lumberhorn had a large number of original compositions. Mostly written by BJ McCrow and Boy Howdy, they often include a series of solos and some (sometimes crude) humor. Though they claimed to be a "new standard in hillbilly music," they were not restricted to that genre. Other covers included "Viva Las Vegas" and the "Rawhide Theme".
