The Meat Packers

The Meat Packers are a British rock band formed in Guildford, Surrey. The band has performed with a varying lineup since its formation, with the only two permanent members being Smith(vocals/guitar), and Billy Daunt (vocals, guitar). Despite their British origins, the band only began to receive attention following their emigration to the United States in 2005.

History

Early Years

Billy Daunt and Smith met in 1993, as a result of an altercation between the two. This led to a rocky start, but the two became friends following the event. Both boys would skip school frequently and during these days they listened to music - most notably the Clash and the Kinks. Smith and Billy began to play music together when they were 13 and over the course of several years the duo played together with numerous other musicians, though they readily admit that their musical ambitions were solely carnal during these years.

The United States

Following their move to the United States, The Meat Packers were signed to independent label Freetime Los Angeles. In November 2005, they released their debut album with the label, Nursing a Hangover with the Meat Packers. During this time, the band became known for excess, as well as encouraging a close relationship with their fans. In keeping with this, the band included several fans in the "Thank You" section of Nursing a Hangover, as well as recording and posting renditions of "Happy Birthday" for fans on their MySpace page.

In addition to extensive performing in San Francisco, the band toured nationally. This trailed off several months after the release of Nursing a Hangover, leading to an eventual hiatus as a result of tensions between Smith and Billy.

Present

After an extended break, the Meat Packers returned with new material posted on their MySpace page in January of 2008. While there is currently no word on the release of a followup to Nursing a Hangover, the band continues to stay in touch with fans via their Myspace and email.
