The Maples Academy
, formerly the Maples Independent Country School, is a private elementary school for students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, operating under the International Baccalaureate program. It is located in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada.
History
The Maples, founded in 1989, began with twelve students in a one-room schoolhouse, in the village of the Maples, in Orangeville. It is now located in a modern school situated on a five-acre property in Amaranth Township.
In 2014, the Maples Independent Country School was purchased by St. Jude's Academy, and the name changed to the Maples Academy.
Academics
The Primary Years Program (PYP) is the International Baccalaureate designation for students aged 3 to 12 (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6).
The Middle Years Program (MYP) is the International Baccalaureate designation for students aged 11 to 16 (Grades 7 - 10).
School Life
Houses
The House system was adapted in 2014 under the new ownership of St. Jude’s Academy. Students are inducted into 1 of 3 houses: Kappa Iota Pi, Theta Sigma Psi or Zeta Beta Pi.
Arts and Athletics
The Maples offers a wide variety of programs in the arts and athletics. Concerts and drama productions run throughout the year. Instrumental music and visual art offered.
