The magick report

The Magick Report is an electronica project that is the brainchild of Ross Finlayson. Generally it is a solo project, but William Gilchrist, otherwise known as Avatar Glaeba, has been involved in a large amount of recordings and live shows. Finlayson has gone by a number of monikers since he started making electronic music in the summer of 2003, under the alias Majiq Rupert. He has since gone by Dr. Knives, Bassnoise Boomtower, Antitower, Venereal Coil N Snake, Screaming Cheetah, Anticheetah, Polycheetah, IO/NIO, 1/0, 0/1, The Nothingness, among others. He has also produced hip-hop for Godfather Germ and Loo$e $crew$.

History
Finlayson started playing guitar at age 12, when his parents bought him a Samick acoustic guitar for Christmas. Since then he has mastered guitar, bass, drums, synthesizer programming and music production, teaching himself how to play these instruments. He started electronic music production in the summer of 2003, when a neighborhood friend Mike Vargas, otherwise known as Konnichiwa Jihad, introduced him to FruityLoops 3, a software program made by Image-Line. This became his main focus of interest after hishigh school rock band, Vaginosis, broke up. He used this for a few years, introducing Gilchrist to it in 2005 when he moved into his house and joined the Rock band Tribit. In October of 2005 he moved to England, his birth country to live. While he was staying at his fathers house in Corby, a friend from Connecticut and fellow electronic musician MisfitChris introduced him to Ableton Live 5. He used this exclusively during his stay in Corby and his time in London, producing 2 full length albums and 3 EP's, out of which came the underground single 'In Search Of...', which hit number 3 on the London Techno Charts, under the moniker Bassnoise Boomtower. Finlayson moved back to America in June of 2006, to live with Gilchrist in Connecticut. shortly after his move back he renounced computers as a medium of music making, and started collecting hardware. Him and Gilchrist started a noise band with Finlayson's girlfriend Lesley Hann called The That, which was shortlived. After this he started a project with Patrick Murphy called The Controller, Murphy contributing with a Korg Kaoss pad. Starting with a stolen Boss Dr-670 and a casio keyboard, he started making music with nothing but hardware. He now resides in Brooklyn, New York.
