The Ladykiller is an early novel of British fictional crime writer Martina Cole, first published in 1993. It focuses on the fictional unsolved murders of prostitutes in East London, and the killer, George Markham, a pensioner who lives in the neighbourhood but nobody suspects him, not even the police. Plot Prostitutes are being raped and murdered brutally in East London, and DCI Kate Burrows and Annie Carr are policewoman investigating the case. They are shocked personally and emotionally by the murders; and are determind to catch the killer, who leaves no clues behind and sneaks away peacefully; like he is invisible. George Markham (whose nickname is the Grantley Ripper) is a pensioner in the area; but has an ununusual hobby, which includes raping young woman and murdering them. He stalks Patrick Kelly's young daughter Mandy; and then she becomes one of his victims, and Kelly is out to find the murderer and get revenge in the quietest way possible. Characters Kate Burrows - a retired policewoman who is shocked by the brutallity of the Grantley Ripper. She becomes determind to put the killer where he belongs; behind bars. She is shocked when the killer is revealed; and will stop at nothing to punish him for his crimes. She worships her job as a policewoman, and enjoys it really much. Annie Carr - is the friend of Kate Burrows, also a policewoman. She works at Grantley Police Station; alongside Kate. She shares a flat with Kate, who is now back with her lover Patrick Kelly. She tries everything possible to find out who's behind the murders; and worships her job in the policeforce. George Markham - the serial killer (called the Grantley Ripper) who rapes and murders young woman in London. He stalks them, rapes them and kills them before casually making his exit; not before making sure he leaves no clues behind. He is caught in the end, much to his wife's horror, as he fooled everyone around him and hid his double life too well. Patrick Kelly - the hardman, gangster and drug dealer of London. Everyone is mainly scared of Kelly, but never admit it to his face. He has a teenage daughter, Mandy, and when she falls victim to the Grantley Ripper; Kelly will stop at nothing to make him pay the ultimate price for his murders. Even if it includes Murder.
