The Foundation Hymn

The Foundation Hymn is a famous alma mater of Christ's Hospital that was written by Arthur W. Upcott during the early 20th century. Many Old Blues around the world sing this notable song instead of the School Song that was written in Latin but translated in 1996 by Revd Avijit Mitra, Christ's Hospital's School Chaplain and the current Head of Classics at The King's School, Rochester

Praise the Lord for our Foundation,
praise him for our holy name,
Christ our host and our salvation,
Yesterday, today, the same
In his tender love he sought us
When we needed most his aid,
By the hand of man he brought us,
To the home his love has made

Praise him for religious guiding,
for the royal founder king,
for the ancient House providing,
shelter 'neath her kindly wing,
Prosper, Lord, with heavenly blessing,
lives of those who love her peace,
with their love their hearts processing;
make their number to increase.

Praise him for th'umbroken story,
linking present and the past,
old world habit, civic glory,

all the words in earth and air.
