The Emigrant is a flash fiction by the Mexican writer Luis Felipe Lomeli. The complete short story is: : The Emigrant :« Forget something? -If only. » This simple dialogue is the shortest short story in Spanish. And alongside with "For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn"', is considered the shortest short story in world's history. These four words condense the drama of each and every person that has migrated from his/her homeland: the memories he/she wants to remember but forgets, the memories he/she wants to forget but remembers. The Emigrant has been translated, at least, into twenty languages. |
