The Diabetes Duo: Captain Glucose and Meter Boy

The Diabetes Duo: Captain Glucose and Meter Boy are two animated and self-proclaimed diabetes heroes whose mission, according to their website is to educate, enlighten, and entertain everyone who has diabetes. They have recently added a female character to their diabetes team. Her name is Dee Dee and is also known as "D-Girl" a Type 1 diabetic who wears an insulin pump and helps them in their mission. Their arch enemy is a character called "The Blood Sugar Maniac" who has appeared in two of their PSAs.
The Diabetes Duo characters was created by two professional television actors, Bill Kirchenbauer and Brad Slaight. Bill has Type 2 diabetes and Brad has Type 1. Kirchenbauer provides the voice of Captain Glucose and Slaight is the voice of Meter Boy. Captain Glucose and Meter Boy: The Diabetes Duo's motto is "Be your own diabetes hero" which has been used in a number of the short animated Public Service Announcements. Kirchenbauer and Slaight have made appearances at diabetes events including the American Diabetes Association diabetes expo in Portland, Oregon.
Captain Glucose and Meter Boy: The Diabetes Duo are internationally known and have been featured on many professional sites and blogs including International Diabetes Federation and contributed to their World Diabetes Day project; Diabetes Hands Foundation. They recently appeared as guest contributors on the diabetes site "Six Until Me" where they world premiered their PSA about "Diabetes Apathy" Six Until Me . Internationally their work has been featured in the German site "Diabetes-Leben" and Brazil's "Diabeticotipol" . They were also interviewed in the largest diabetes online community site, TuDiabetes
According to their updated website, they've recently changed their name to "The Diabetes Heroes" and also call themselves "The Diabetes Hero Squad" and have incorporated new characters as well as in the planning stages of redesigning the character of Captain Glucose.
