The Desert Ultra

The Desert Ultra is a 250 km Multi Stage Footrace/Ultra-Marathon through the Namib Desert in Africa. Competitors will be self sufficient carrying all of their own provisions (food, water, clothes etc.) often starting the race with packs as heavy as 15kg. The Namib Desert witnesses temperatures of up to 40 degrees during the day, cooling off during the night making this a truly tough test of human endurance. The race itself is split in to 5 stages with competitors sleeping in tents before and after each stage is completed. Terrain is extremely varied in the Namib Desert with sand, stone and rocks featuring at different stages. With a long stage of 100km, this event can be put in the same category as the infamous Marathon Des Sables. (which is also a multi-stage ultra race across a desert). Namibia has a rich and diverse wildlife population with lions, leopards, Impala and Elephants to name a few.
