The Danger Team

The Danger Team was a 1991 primetime special featuring claymation characters interacting with live-action actors. The special focuses on a group of claymation characters that come to life after a ball of glop from outer space crashes into the studio of an artist who forms the glop into little cartoonish figures. The special premiered on ABC on July 3, 1991 to moderate ratings and was not picked up as a full series. There are currently no plans to release the pilot on DVD or Blu-Ray.
Description
After a ball of space goop crash-lands in sculptor Chris Norman's studio, he molds the goop into three figurines, which (unbeknownst to him) come to life. Chris dubs them "The Danger Team" and uses the figures for a series of claymation PSA videos. The Danger Team (Spex, Truk and Nit) soon takes a liking to Chris and his girlfriend, Cheryl, an aspiring detective. After a case of mistaken identity leaves Chris kidnapped, The Danger Team must reveal their true existence to Cheryl and team up to save him.

Reception
Variety gave an ambivalent review of the pilot, praising the creativity of the three puppets, but calling the back story "amateurish" and stating that the personalities of the puppets weren't developed enough. The Chicago Sun-Times panned The Danger Team as "dumb", saying that the pilot "didn't fly".
