The Center for Rural Entrepreneurial Studies

The Center for Rural Entrepreneurial Studies (CRES), housed at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, is a grant funded organization that assists entrepreneurs in the formation and growth of their entrepreneurial venture. CRES serves the area of Northwest Minnesota, offering services to the following 11 counties: Beltrami, Clearwater, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau.
History
The Center for Rural Entrepreneurial Studies officially began in August 2010 with a congressionally directed grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant was supported by both Senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar with Congressman Collin Peterson playing an important leadership role in the entrepreneurial endeavor.

The Center for Rural Entrepreneurial Studies provides clients with technical assistance, research, and entrepreneurial advice and counseling. CRES offers individualized services based on the clients’ need. The services include and are not limited to the following:
