The Battle of Me

The Battle of Me is a Happy-Hardcore band based out of Richmond Virginia, formed in Spring of 2008. The band has an EP out, called "Sing Me An EP", on itunes, and rumors of a full length album have been circulating. The Battle of Me has one mission: to spread Love, Joy, Hope, and Passion to any place in need, be it a venue, street corner, backyard, church, arena, or basement.
Early Days
Vocalist Brandon O'Neil, bassist Tucker Dean, and lead guitarist Matt Elgin all attended Moody Middle School, a school for gifted students. The three knew of Blake, but did not know the means to ever contact him. However, a few years later, Blake recieved a call from guitarist Matt Elgin, asking him to play with him sometime. Singer Brandon O'Neil claims, "We basically stalked that dude for forever! Once we all hit highschool and Facebook was fair game, we found his number and called him up...but Facebook stalking is wrong and you shouldn't do it." The group thus began.
Musical Style
"When we first started writing music, we would have a song that was real heavy, with breakdowns and screaming, and then play the next song, which would be exremely happy and poppy," says drummer Blake Hurt. "So we thought, 'Why choose a direction? Let's combine all of it!'" The group's music reflects a combination of what each member brings to the table, be it poppy vocals, heavy breakdowns, Indie ensambles, or hip-hop beats.
Commercial
The Battle of Me is frequently played on Richmond Radio Stations. Their EP, "Sing Me an EP" has had notable success on Itunes. The band, before any big event, always gives fans "Battle of Me" updates on their myspace page, which has also had a lot of exposure. Each band member has a Twitter account. Lyrics to their songs have been posted on the internet, yet the band knows not by who. The band has performed live on Richmond's Y101 Community Service, Richmond's leading Radio Station for Rock music. On November 7th, The Battle of Me headlined one of Richmond's biggest venues, The National. Lead Guitarist Matt Elgin claims, "They forgot to put the 'The' in front of our name. But who cares? It was cool to share a marquee with Brand New and Thrice."
