The Barbwires - The New Wave of Surf Music Swedish surf trio the Barbwires’ new album Searider is one of the most significant albums in the history of surf music. It is certainly the most ambitious work in surf music in decades. It breaks new ground by augmenting the band with a mini-orchestra performing sophisticated arrangements (written by the Barbwires’ guitarist and creative leader Mike Barbwire). Of course, ambition counts for little if the execution is lacking. But Searider delivers: the songs abound with spirit and imagination and explode with melody and energy. The album succeeds on every level and sets a new standard for songwriting, performance, arrangements, even sound quality /Ivan Pongracic History In the Summer of 1997 the Barbwires released their first 7" on their own label KOOK RECORDS. Before that, the band had recorded a demo (Produced by Lars Kjellén, The Daytonas ) and made a couple of local shows. After the release of their debut EP and a lot of interest in Swedish media. The EP was distributed by the bandmembers only in Sweden and in the US. After an excellent review in Surf Music Usa (Robert Dalley) the knowledge of the band resulted in many overseas orders. The first 7" sold 500 copies. Their latest release Searider on california label Wild Records in december 2008 has made a serious impact on the surfscene cross the globe.
