The Ascendants of Estorea is a fantasy novel duology by James Barclay. The first novel in the duology, Cry Of The Newborn, was released on 20 October 2005. The second book, A Shout For The Dead, was released in the UK on 4 January 2007. Synopsis Cry Of The Newborn The book is set in a fantasy world where two powerful groups, the Estorean Conquord and the Kingdom of Tsard, have been at war with one another. Herine Del Aglios, Advocate of the Estorean Conquord, is eager to expand her rule and is unafraid to fight for it. During this war four special children are born with the power to magically influence the world around them. However as they grow they find that they are drawn into the intrigue between the two groups. Shout For The Dead Ten years have passed since the events in the prior book and the four teenagers are now adults. The land of Estorea has become war-torn and the Ascendants have all chosen sides for the upcoming battle - and not all on the same side. Reception Sfcrowsnest gave a mostly favorable review for Shout For The Dead and stated that while it was not as strong as its predecessor, the book's characters were well designed. See Also
