The Akron Hammer is a nickname given to Lebron James, who lived in Akron Ohio. History He originally called Lebron "The Akron Sledge Hammer" but shortened it weeks later to "The Akron Hammer". Publicity Nike, Lebron's sponsor, was planning on releasing a shoe line named "The Hammer" but feared it would be too popular and that they would not be able to keep up with the demand. has recently brought this nickname back to the spotlight but Colin Cowherd denies the fact that it is a good nickname because he is the one who dunked on Lebron in the infamous "Dunk Gate" Scandal when Lebron's Nike reps confiscated the evidence. Awards "The Akron Hammer" won the first annual QA-NICKNAMES Nickname of the Year Award. It also was runner up in the Nickname of the Century contest. |
