Tha Carter IV is the upcoming eighth studio album by rapper Lil Wayne. The album will be his first rap studio album since the February 2010 release of his now Gold certified rap-rock album, Rebirth. Background Wayne mentioned the possibility of this album as early as September 2008. He began recording this album in early October 2008, but later that month he claimed that he did not want this to follow Tha Carter III immediately. In early 2009, Wayne changed his position; he stated that he will release this album in 2009, the same year as his rock album Rebirth, around the end of the year. Production duo Play-N-Skillz has been tapped to contribute production. Birdman stated that Tha Carter IV will be packaged with Rebirth as a double disc album. However, Wayne denied this idea saying that "Tha Carter IV deserves Tha Carter IV". After several rumors stating that the album would be released in 2009, Wayne told Billboard that the album would be released in 2010. However, due to Wayne's current jail sentence, he stated that the album would be released in 2011 shortly after his release. It has been reported that he has completed 20 songs for the album. Two music videos for unknown songs were shot in February 2010 and have been confirmed to be on Tha Carter IV.
