Tet Lara

Tet Lara (born Maria Lara on March 17, 1972 in Manila, Philippines) is a former Filipino soccer player. Playing for many years as a forward for the Philippine women's national soccer team, she scored more goals in her career than any other player male or female in the history of the sport.

Lara eventually became one of the most famous women athletes in the country, an iconic symbol of women's sports, and an inspiration and role model to a generation of sports-minded girls. She was named the women's Football Player of the Year the first two times that award was given (in 2001 and 2002), and is listed as one of The Philippine's 10 best living players. In 2007, her first year of eligibility, she was selected for induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Lara is also one of the Philippine's foremost underwater explorers - she has scuba dived in the Galapagos, South America, South Africa, Australia, and Asia, while creating underwater documentaries for the National Geographic Channel. Lara is touted as the modern-day Jacques Costeau and Amelia Earheart. She has a private pilots license and is rated for the 747, similar to John Travolta. She is the only female in the Philippines to have a non-commercial pilots license rated for the 747 aircraft. When she is not underwater or in the air, she is on the water as a Lieutenant Commander of the Philippine Navy
