TDK-Micronas is a developer and manufacturer of semiconductor-based sensors and ICs for automotive and industrial electronics. TDK-Micronas is headquartered in Freiburg, Germany. History The company was founded in May 1989 in Switzerland as Crosstec Engineering AG. In July 1992 it took over Nokia’s subsidiary Micronas Oyand began operating as Micronas. In 1995, Micronas Semiconductor Holding AG was founded in Zurich and four months later the company was listed on the Swiss stock exchange. In 1997, Micronas acquired ’s German subsidiary in Freiburg. In 2000, Micronas Holding AG took over 15% of Analog Circuit Technologies (now innoCOMM Wireless) in San Diego, California. This investment was sold in February 2001 with the acquisition of innoCOMM Wireless by National Semiconductor. In October of the same year Micronas acquired Infineon’s Image and Video division, in April 2003 the Dutch design center of Microtune, in May 2004 LINX Electronics, and in December 2005 WISchip International. In 2007 and 2008 a restructuring of the consumer segment took place. Some parts of the consumer electronics division were sold in 2009, the remainder was closed. In addition to its automotive division, Micronas founded its industrial division in 2010 to focus on the automotive and industrial markets. In 2011 Micronas claimed to be profitable again after four years of losses. In 2015 Micronas was acquired by the TDK Corporation. Consequently, in October 2016, the company's stock was delisted and the company renamed TDK-Micronas. TDK is an international supplier of electronic and magnetic components for the automotive, industrial and consumer markets as well as for information and communication technology. TDK-Micronas is expanding TDK's product range to include Hall-effect-based magnetic field sensors and microcontroller ICs, which are sold under the brand name Micronas. In 2017 TDK-Micronas acquired the Belgian IC design company ICsense. Corporate structure and products TDK-Micronas GmbH is headquartered in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, where its operational business center and production site are located. Additionally, TDK-Micronas maintains a development site in Munich. In addition to the operational subsidiaries in Germany, Belgium, and Japan, TDK-Micronas operates worldwide sales offices. TDK-Micronas develops and manufactures semiconductor products for automotive and industrial applications. The product range comprises magnetic field sensors and current sensors based on the Hall effect (Hall effect switches, programmable linear Hall effect sensors, direct angle sensors), as well as embedded controllers: Hall effect switches, programmable linear Hall effect sensors, current sensors, and embedded controllers for smart actuators. Investments TDK-Micronas has several subsidiaries: *TDK-Micronas K.K. Japan, Tokyo, Japan, 100% *TDK-Micronas New Technologies Micronas GmbH, Munich, Germany, 100% *ICsense, Leuven, Belgium, 100%
