Tarun Chakraborty Tarun Chakraborty, presently a TV journalist working in Kolkata as a Senior Copy Editor of NE Bangla. Born 25th December 1965, in a middle class family of Ranaghat, in Nadia District of West Bengal, India and his father, Sri Bhubaneswar Chakraborty was a marketing executive of a British owned firm and mother Smt. Gyatri Chakraborty a house wife. Completed Graduation in 1987 from the University of Calcutta.
Early stage
Since his school life, he has participated in different extra curricular activities such as recitation, debates, extempore etc in various part of the districts and adjoining areas. From College life he started writing poetries in different little magazines. First reportage, published in a little magazine in 1988 and the subject was problems of Hizra. In 1989, another reportage also published related to the problems of sex workers. Since then, he used to work as freelance reporter in various Bengali news papers.
Career in Bengali News paper
In the year 1990 he joined as sub editor of a Bengali weekly Purbanchal Sambad, the oldest Bengali weekly of North East India, published from Guwahati, Assam. 1991-93 he worked as a Sub editor of Gana Patrika, a Bengali daily published from Guwahati. March, '93, he has joined Dainik Sonar Cachar, Silchar, Assam based news paper as a sub-editor cum reporter. During his association with DSC, he has visited several parts of NE region and in the year 1996 he was transferred to Delhi, before that he enjoyed the accreditations of Govt of Assam. In Delhi, he covered several national and international events, including proceedings of both house of the Parliament and also covered Inter parliamentary session . In the year 1997 he joined Bangalok, another Bengali daily, published from Kolkata. During his association with this paper again he was posted in Delhi and he covered several national events there and also witnessed the tenure of Mr. Devegowda and Mr. Gujral, as the Prime Minister of India. In 1997, before the presidential election all the Bengali and other media predicted that Nazma Hepatullah will be the next Vice President of the country. But only his prediction was correct. As reporter of Bangalok, he also visited Patna and during fodder scam episode only he could predict that Rabri Devi will be the next CM of Bihar.
Career in TV Journalism
9th June 1999, he joined E TV as a reporter and having few weeks working experience in Kolkata in September he was shifted to Agartala, Tripura. Up to April, 2000 he used to works only for E-TV Telugu from Tripura and that time he covered several militant related stories from Tripura including the major insurgency related incidents and also covered the General election of 1999. And since, 14th April, 2000, he is working mainly for Bangla Channel.
Tenure in Tripura
From Tripura, he has covered insurgency related stories, their hideouts, different insurgent incidents, impacts of insurgency in civil society , counter insurgency operations of various agencies, cross border terrorism. Covered several political events also, including assembly and parliament election. He has also covered sports events, cultural programmes etc. From Tripura several times he has visited Bangladesh and covered last Jatiyo Samsad Nirvachan (Parliament election) of Bangladesh too. Also covered assembly election of Mizoram. Traveled Arunachal Pradesh with MOS Home, of Vajpayee Govt. by helicopter and also Traveled by Charter flights of present Union Home Minister to cover the situation of Mizoram. In 2005, covered the SAARC Summit in Dhaka.
As a Desk person
January, 2006 he has was transferred to Bangla newsdesk as a Senior Copy Editor and from the very beginning in the desk he worked in prime shifts. Produced several prime time bulletins and during last assembly election of West Bengal he has produced all the election related special bulletins. In 2006 itself, he also Traveled Bangladesh to cover several special events.
Manipur Election
In 2007, itself he covered the Manipur assembly election, not only for the Bangla channel, also for all the 12 other channels of ETV Network. From Manipur also, he filed number of breaking and exclusive stories.

Seminar and other activities He has actively participated a number of seminars and presented papers too. In 1995 twice he went Bangladesh to attend international seminar on Indo-Bangla relation.
