On March 31, 2022, a school shooting occurred at Tanglewood Middle School in Greenville County, South Carolina which resulted in the death of one student. He was hospitalized, but later died. Nearly 100 deputies responded to the shooting, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office reported. The male shooter fled the scene immediately after shooting Jamari and was found hiding under a house deck at a nearby residence on Easley Bridge Road at approximately 1:30pm by police. At 2:20pm, about 2 hours after the shooting, the school district released a statement which said "law enforcement has confirmed that the suspect is in custody, and they are not looking for any additional suspects."<ref name=":1" /> Aftermath Students were taken to Brookwood Church in Simpsonville after the incident to reunite with their families. A parent stated "this is my worst nightmare; I think about this all the time," in response to the shooting.<ref name=":0" /> Bus routes for other schools in the school district were delayed.<ref name=":1" />
