The Tamaskan wolfdog is a breed of domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) originating from several countries including Finland, USA, Czechoslovakia and the UK. It is not to be confused with the Tamaskan dog which has no alleged wolf ancestry despite claims wolf blood by the breed founders []. Description Tamaskan Wolfdogs are large and athletic wolf dogs. Males should be strong and poweful in appearance but females should be feminine without weakness or loss of power in appearance and both will have a feral like appearance with thick coarse fur, and small ears with a straight, sickle like bushy tail. Tamaskan Wolfdog Breed Standard. The USA can boast the 1st kennel to confirm wolfdog blood lines in the breed Temperament Tamaskan Wolfdogs are good with other dogs, although do have a high prey drive. They are highly intelligent and have strengths in agility and obedience training, as well as sled racing. They are highly social, and do not cope well without the company of people or other dogs. A Tamaskan Wolfdog left alone for long periods of time may become bored, which can lead to destructive behaviour or escape attempts. Unlike some of their husky ancestors the Tamaskan wolf dog responds well off the leash and, with training, they will return when called. History The first generation of Tamaskan dog to be registered were born in 2002. Since that time the addition of wolfdogs and wolves have been used to improve the breed and create the Tamaskan Wolfdog. The breeds used include Grey Wolf, Northern Inuit, Utonagan, Siberian Husky, Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, and Tamaskan Dog The first Tamaskan to be imported into America arrived in 2005 and they had their first litter in 2007, the USA is now home to the Official Register for the Tamaskan Wolfdog .
