SwordPen Publishers

SwordPen Publishers is a children’s book publishing company. It was founded in 2005 by Zev Lewinson.
As of 2015, SwordPen has over 10 book titles and over 7 employees in several different countries.
SwordPen was created as a portmanteau from the two words “sword” and “pen,” from the famous saying, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” Lewinson wanted to convey the power and inspiration the written word can have, especially for children.
Zev Lewinson, a teacher and writer, wrote several children’s books and had sent them out to various publishers. He then realized he liked the idea of publishing as much as he liked the idea of writing, and he copyrighted the name of the company in 2007.
SwordPen was initially perused by major publishing companies. However, Lewinson wanted to retain the original, creative flavor of the books, and to have them be expressed in their original form, and not have them be diminished in any way from financial concerns or cutting corners, and ultimately, did not sign them over to any company.
Extell Development Company CEO Gary Barnett invested $150,000.00 into SwordPen Publishers for a 25% stake in the company.
In 2012, SwordPen Publishers was featured at the BEA show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. SwordPen had a booth and showcased their many titles. SwordPen was also featured on the back-inside cover of the BEA official show directory magazine.
SwordPen books have numerous accolades from many of the largest publishing companies in the world, including Random House Children’s Books, Harper Collins Publishers, Skyhorse Publishing, and Peter Elek Associates, as well as numerous agents.

On December 2007, SwordPen filed a lawsuit against Henry Holt for plagiarism of one of their books.
