Susana de la Puente Wiese

Susana de la Puente Wiese (born February 10, 1958) is a Peruvian banker and businesswoman. She serves as Director at Grupo Wiese, Executive Director at Futura Schools, Member of the Board of and Member of the Board of Directors of El Museo del Barrio. She is known for participating in the large privatizations that took place in Latin America during the decade of the 1990s.
Early life and education
De la Puente was born in 1958 and grew up in Lima, Peru. She is the daughter of the former minister Gonzalo de la Puente y Lavalle and Clotilde Wiese de Osma. She attended Villa María School. She earned a degree in business administration from the University of the Pacific where she is currently Member of the Patronage. She later obtained an MBA at Arthur D. Little School of Management.
Career
Susana de la Puente started her career at JPMorgan in 1983, as analyst in the Latin America Economic and Financial Analysis Department. She held different positions within the Bank, including Head of U.S. Multinationals business in Latin America; Senior Banker for large clients in Mexico; Head of the Andean Region, Central America and the Caribbean; Country Head for Colombia, Peru and Venezuela; and in 2005 she was named Vice Chairman for Latin America.
She is credited for having a key role in the transformation of Latin America’s business and financial landscape. She participated in the largest transactions in the region, including the large privatizations of the 80’s and 90’s, and the high-profile M&A crossborder transactions in core sectors of the economy.
Politics
She served as campaign treasurer during incumbent President of Peru Pedro Pablo Kuczynski presidential campaign in 2016.
Recognition
De la Puente has been recognized across the world for her role in the development of Latin American markets. Euromoney named her one of The Top Ten Women in Finance; CNN/Time Magazine called her one of the 50 young Latin America Leaders for the new millennium; Global Finance magazine appointed her one of the top 50 women in finance”; and magazine Poder, and the Economist, named her the “Best Latin American Investment Banker”. In 2016 De la Puente, received the yearly award of Pro-Mujer, a micro-lending NGO based in NY, for her support of economic development and the empowerment of women in Latin America.
