Surbana International Consultants is a consultancy that specialises in sustainable urban solutions. Headquartered in Singapore, it is co-owned by Temasek Holdings and CapitaLand. The company has experience in a range of sectors from urban development, building, aviation, marine & coastal, port, transport, healthcare, tourism and leisure infrastructure across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Surbana employs 2,200 employees in 14 cities across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. History and milestones Surbana was formerly the Building and Development Division in Singapore’s Housing and Development Board. It was corporatised in 2003 as a consultancy business offering full-service building consultancy solutions, including architecture, engineering, quantity surveying, project and construction management, coastal engineering and infrastructure, urban planning, building technology and city management. Surbana has expanded its consultancy business to over 90 cities in 26 countries. Today, Surbana has established itself in a wide range of sectors - from urban development, building, aviation, marine and coastal, port, transport, healthcare, tourism and leisure infrastructure across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Overseas projects KIGALI CITY MASTERPLAN in Rwanda - Surbana Urban Planning Group master planned the 134.2 km Kigali city project in Rwanda. A blueprint was drawn up to strategically guide development, facilitate rapid economic growth by attracting investments, create employment, and position Kigali as a commercial hub of east-central Africa. MKH WORLD in Kuala Lumpur - MKH World is an integrated mixed development in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia that has 12 storeys of offices, 5 storeys of shops, 650 service apartments, as well as a street mall and plaza. It enjoys high visibility from passing traffic because of its strategic location along the North South Expressway. Fujian Shishi Resettlement Housing in China - The Shishi City Residence is the pilot startup parcel of the Shishi New City of Bliss masterplan. It comprises 1,150 residential units, an integrated neighbourhood mall, a kindergarten, and a primary school. This development seeks to create a living environment for residents, with the convenience of modern amenities. THE LIGHT in Penang - The Light is an commercial urban downtown development on 30 ha of reclaimed land designated to act as the main gateway to Penang island. It aims to redefine and reposition Penang as a destination within Malaysia, for both local and international visitors. Surbana's design strives to reflect the essence of Penang. The theme of light was used a thread to connect the different elements of the city - the architecture reflected the shimmering interplay of light on water or took inspiration from light travelling through a prism or crystal. Local projects TREELODGE @ PUNGGOL in Singapore - Treelodge is the first public housing development in Singapore to achieve the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum award. The project has also won international awards such as the Green Good Design Award 2010 and the Futurac Green Leadership award 2011. Treelodge has an environmentally friendly design, which maximises energy efficiency and reduces waste. It has a landscaped deck employed with hybrid green roof technology to reduce structural loading and has trees planted in the basement carpark that help to lower outdoor temperatures and a centralized chute for recyclable waste on every floor. The walls are made of concrete and foam, which decrease temperatures inside apartments and cuts down the need for air-conditioning, thereby reducing electricity usage. PASIR PANJANG RECLAMATION in Singapore - Surbana engineered the Pasir Panjang Terminal (PPT) reclamation, which involved reclaiming 200 ha of land to construct 15 new deep-water shipping berths - including the deepest in the world. In order to protect the environmentally sensitive Labrador Nature Reserve adjacent to PPT, Surbana also designed and deployed a 1 km long cut off bund constructed by the use of cement mixed soil and geo-textile tubes.
