Sur Piyasi Music Academy, a music school situated in the district of Murshidabad in West Bengal, was established by Pandit Soumendu Lahiri in 1994. This Academy, under the guidance of Pandit Somendu Lahiri offers training only in stringed instruments. Their speciality is focused mainly on Spanish and Hawaiian Guitars. Activities The academy, to inspire the students regularly arrange various programs and functions on music where Guitar and various stringed instruments always prioritiesd. The Founder Principal Pandit Soumendu Lahiri the founder principal of the academy received his training in music from various notable musicians of the district and state. In his early childhood, Pandit Soumendu Lahiri received his first training in music from his father Pandit Amalendu Lahiri,<ref name=":0" /> a popularly known vocalist of his time. From his father, Mr. Lahiri learned mainly classical and light music, called "Shyama Sangeet", "Bhakti Geeti" etc. Later he went to ustad Abu Dawood Khan - a legendary vocalist of Bengal and learned Indian classical. Next, he went to Prabir Mukherjee - a mass singer, from him he learned modern songs and continued his musical journey. Next, he concentrated his all interest in stringed instruments, and went to Harsha Dasgupta and received training in Spanish guitar. His interest in guitar fetched him to another famous musician Gouri Prasad Banerjee for advanced training in Spanish guitar. He also received training in Spanish guitar from Suman Sarkar. After Classical songs and stringed instruments he concentrated his interest in tabla, he received extensive training in playing tabla from Anil Bagchi and Ashish Sanyal, two popular tabla players of the district.
