Sunrise Records

Sunrise Records is a Canadian independent record store chain based entirely within the province of Ontario. It is the last major such independent media retail business in the country.
The first store was established in 1977 by The Handleman Co. at 237 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario and purchased by Malcolm and Roy Perlmann who oversaw expansion of the chain.
The chain has 15 outlets in 10 cities in the the province's southwestern peninsula. Four are street stores with two in Toronto with one each in London and Kingston, with the rest in shopping malls. The chain was also the first non-United States retailer to join the Music Monitor Network, a coalition of independent retailers, a collective advocate for independent retail with such initiatives like the annual Record Store Day promotion. It also has its own in-house magazine, Needle.
While the primary focus of the chain is still media recordings like music compact discs and home video film and television DVDs, the recent market realities have prompted the chain to now also carry books, collector's toys, casual clothing, novelty items and similar products.
