Sundanese language in Depok

Depok is known as one of the areas with Betawi culture in West Java, This is due to the geographical location of Depok City which is to the south City of Jakarta which is the center of Betawi culture and also serves as the satellite city of Jakarta. In addition to the use of the Betawi language, in Depok there are also areas where the majority of the people speak Sundanese, namely Leuwinanggung sub-district in Tapos district and there are also several other districts whose people speak Sundanese language, like in Cimanggis and Cilodong.
Sundanese as local content
Sundanese is local content in Depok. The determination of the Sundanese language as local content in Depok City reaped a lot of polemics. Many cultural figures and historians of Depok reject this, one of them is Nur Mahmudi Ismail, in the 5th year Cultural Arts Festival in Depok he proposed that local content in Sundanese not be mandatory. He also said that the city of Depok was included in the Betawi Malay zone, in accordance with regional regulation No. 5 of 2006 that West Java Province is divided into three zones, namely the Betawi Malay zone, Priangan, and Jawa Sawareh (Jawareh).
Usages
Apart from being a local content in Depok City, Sundanese is also used in the daily life of the Sundanese people in Depok even though its use is relatively small when compared to Indonesian and Betawi speakers. According to the 2010 Indonesian census, Sundanese is only spoken by 2.80% of the total population of Depok. Most Sundanese speakers are generally concentrated in the east of Depok, namely in Tapos district, especially Leuwinanggung sub-district.
