Student Body of Wabash College

The Student Body of Wabash College is the Wabash College student government. It is constituted under the Constitution of the Student Body of Wabash College.

Executive

Executive authority rests with the President and Vice-President of the Student Body, who are chosen by general election at the end of each fall semester. The President chairs the Senior Council of Wabash College, and the Vice-President chairs the Student Senate of Wabash College. Each of those entities chooses additional officers as necessary, although the Constitution only requires the existence of a Secretary of the Student Senate.

Legislature

The legislature of the student government is the Student Senate. Senators representing the residence halls and fraternities are elected by those living-units. Representatives of the three under-classes are elected by general election of the classes. Elections occur at the end of the fall semester and terms are spring to fall. Chairmen of the Student Senate’s standing committees are also voting members of the body. Presently, these include the Chairmen of the Board of Publications and the Constitution, Bylaw and Policy Review Committee. Besides setting government policy, the legislature manages over $350,000.00 of student funds each year.

The Senior Council is a quasi-legislative body constituted under the First Amendment to the Constitution. Composed of the presidents of several major student organizations and several members at-large, the Senior Council is charged with the maintenance of campus unity, the representation of students to the faculty and administration, and the proper regard of college tradition.

Judiciary

The student government does not have a separate judicial branch. Student discipline is managed by the Office of the Dean of Students, and the Constitution provides the Student Senate interpretive powers. In practice, the Constitution, Bylaw and Policy Review Committee handles most questions of interpretation.
