There are four types of street parking types in Australia. 1. Free parking This is the most common parking type in Australia. People can park their cars/ vehicles for any length of time free in these areas. 2. Restricted parking Here people can park the vehicles free as per restriction. The sign board will indicate the hours/minutes for which the user can park, the days and the time period between which the rule is applicable. For example, restricted indication like ' 2P, Mon-Sat 08:00 am - 09:00 pm, Permit holders excepted' means this is a two hour parking for the restricted time mentioned and it is free for all other times. People with appropriate permits are excepted and can park longer. 3. Paid parking To park in the area designated for paid parking, users have to take a ticket from the parking meter. It will be indicated on the sign board for how long the user can park there using the ticket purchased. For e.g. 2P ticket indicates you can park there for 2 hours once you have taken the ticket. Similarly there can be 1/2P, 1P etc. 4. Disabled parking Disabled parking is a type of restricted parking. It is intended for people with disabilities. Only people with a valid disability parking permit can park in these locations.
