Stignorance - (origin: word coined by writer Adam Reed; stigma + ignorance = stignorance) word developed to end the stigma and ignorance associated with mental illness and the resulting discrimination experienced by people suffering with mental illnesses. Adam Reed coined the word stignorance during a "round table" discussion regarding how "stigma - born of ignorance" remains a major obstacle in the recovery of individuals suffering with a mental illness. left Images for "No More Stignorance" and the menacing character and name, Stignoramous Rex, were created by Longwater & Company for use by the "Opening Doors to Recovery Pilot Project". The project is a community based mental health collaborative, non-profit, public-private partnership which is a revolutionary, recovery-oriented, case management program being conducted in southeast Georgia. This community collaborative is reducing stigma, saving lives and changing the way communities encourage those with mental illness.
