Stevie Cochran

Stevie Cochran is a guitarist, singer and songwriter. He started making records in 1981 with the release "Why (do they Kill?)".
He has since done eighteen studio albums, two live albums, two DVDs, played the Montreux Jazz Festival five times. He has toured extensively in Europe, Japan and the East Coast of the United States since 1986. He has been signed to Msi/blutone records, Music Avenue records, and Maseleum records and SCP records.
Early life
Born in 1958, his parents and grandfather were musicians. His grandfather was famed swing jazz guitarist Harry Volpe.
He grew up in Massapequa, New York.He started playing guitar at the age of seven.He was already playing for money by the age of fifteen.
1981-1995
Stevie recorded his first 45 rpm in January 1981 right after John Lennon was shot in December 1980. He recorded it independently and released it in May of that year. At that time childhood friend Brian Setzer of the Straycats, who at that time just broke the singles chart in England, came home to Massapequa, a town on Long Island in New York. Brian brought the record with him to a radio interview on WLIR-FM. They took a liking to the record and gave it full rotation for three weeks in summer of 1981, followed by another 45 that fall, "Mr.Goody Two Shoes" and a three song EP in 1982.
Stevie Cochran and the X-Citers as they were called at this early stage, began opening shows at My Father's Place in Roslyn, New York for Rick Derringer, ], Sly and the Family Stone (who never showed) also Johnny Winter, Robin Trower, Ron Wood, Bo Diddley and many more at Frank Cariola's Sundance club in Bay Shore,New York.
By 1989 he was also recording an album at Power Station Studios in New York with producer Steve Boyer (Eric Clapton - Unplugged, Billy Squier and more). He was also playing guitar on jingles and for other artists.
In 1993 he played for six weeks in Japan. Returning to find the studio closing, he began making his own records again starting with the CD "In One Ear-Out the Other" in 1995.
1995-2005
In 95 he headed for Switzerland for a three-week tour that led to many tours in European countries. In 1996 he put out a CD called "Eye To Eye" and a live CD called "Everywhere Town" recorded in Japan,Europe and New York.
1997 brought a half live,half studio CD called "Live and Not". In 1998 it was picked up by the label Msi/blutone,part of Dixiefrog records In Europe. He continued to tour in Europe.
The label was dropped In 1999. Stevie returned with the first Harry Records release "Hearts and Ears" in 99,followed by "Underground "in 2001, and "Confused and Misunderstood" in 2002. He would play Montruex Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 98,99,and 2000. Returning in 2003 recording the CD "Live at Montruex ". Returning again in 2004 for a summer tour of festivals in Italy,France and Switzerland.
2005-2014
Tours continued in 2005. 2006 saw the release of "Life Long Tour" and 2008 "Dusk" all released on Stevie's Harry Records once again.Then in 2009,when he was signed to Music Avenue Records in France. Four CDs were released worldwide starting with "Live at Montruex" In 2009,"Twelve Reasons" in 2010,"The Next Stage" in 2011 and "Changes" in 2012.
Touring in Europe continued In 2013 and 2014. The next CD would be "Even Steven" in 2015.
As of 2016 Stevie Cochran is recording a new one tentatively titled "Acoustic Electric Sunrise" to be released in 2017.
