Steven Richter is an American writer and director, and founder of the Academia Internacional de Cinema, a film school with branches in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Today he lives in Lisbon, Portugal, with his wife, the poet and screenwriter Flávia Rocha, and their children. He directed the feature film Center of Gravity (2011), a Portuguese-language film set in São Paulo that premiered at the São Paulo International Film Festival and made its European premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London. It has screened on A&E, The Sundance Channel, MGM TV, Amazon, and many others. His second feature film Birds of Neptune (2015), set in Portland, Oregon, premiered at the 21st Slamdance Film Festival .and won best film and best actor at The Arizona International Film Festival. He is slated to film his next feature Anatomy of the Sun in the Algarve, Portugal, in mid 2021. Academia Internacional de Cinema Richter founded the Academia Internacional de Cinema in 2004. Today it is the largest film school in Brazil, with locations in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and offering both accredited and continuing education programs. The AIC has brought to the school such notable filmmakers to teach or lecture as Argentine director Lucrecia Martel, American screenwriter Robert MCkee,Argentine director Lucía Puenzo, director Kleber Mendosa Filho, actor Wagner Moura, Sebastian Silva, and many more.
