Stephen Budd Management is a producer, songwriter and engineer management company based in London, UK. They provide production co-ordination support to liase between record companies, artists, studios, management companies and musicians on behalf of their producers.
History
Stephen Budd Management (SBM) was founded in 1988 by Stephen Budd after spending three years working with David Bowie's producer, Tony Visconti, managing his career and his Dean Street recording studio.
Stephen Budd began to add a number of successful producers to his roster and the company now represents around 25 producers, mixers and songwriters including Rick Nowels, Jon Kelly, Tore Johansson and Valgeir Sigurdsson.
In 2001 SBM merged with Channelfly PLC.
Stephen Budd
Stephen Budd started his music career as a roadie for Motorhead, Generation X and X-Ray Specs. He then went into artist management representing Big Sound Authority, The Sound and later Tanita Tikaram and Heaven 17. In 1988 he formed SBM, which now have 25 producers, songwriters and engineers on their roster.
Stephen also runs Pollination Music (recently signing Paul Oakenfold), the MAMA music publishing operation. He also created the successful ‘Passport :Back To The Bars’ project, featuring major artists (inc. Amy Winehouse, The Cure, David Gray etc) playing in the Barfly Clubs for charity and is a co-exec producer along with Damon Albarn of the Africa Express project, promoting African music to western artists through travel to Africa and concerts in the UK.
Stephen is a founder / council member of the Music Managers Forum.
Channelfly
Stephen became a director of the Channelfly Group in 2001 when SBM merged with Channelfly PLC. The Channelfly Group includes the Barfly Clubs, The Fly Magazine and SuperVision artist management
SuperVision was started by Stephen Budd and Paul Craig in 1999 and manages acts including Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs and The Cribs.
Channelfly is now a part of MAMA Group PLC, which also owns Hammersmith Apollo, The Forum, Jazz Café venues and the Lovebox, Global Gathering, Surfstock and Great Escape festivals.
